A couple is not two incomplete people being complete as one, but rather two complete people being more complete as one - a martian.
A phrase from a Sunday morning ministry sparked some thoughts and got some gears in this rusty old head spinning. Are women complementary or supplementary to men? The difference may be just semantics, but there may be far fetching implications to both conclusions. Unfortunately, we do not have much to base upon using the Bible (I can only think of using Genesis 2), so we are pretty much in uncharted terratorries, aye heere be dragons...
My personal view is that men and women shares a supplementary relationship. (from Genesis 2) Both are capable of fulfilling many (not all) of the roles of each other, but yet, there are roles that requires the other party. The desire of companionship comes not from the need to be complete but rather the desire of sharing and empathizing.
I will throw the ball in the sky now, and since Feb 14 is just around the corner, me thinks this would be an interesting topic in understand our relationship with both species of the opposite sexes. |
